After graduating high school, Joey went active duty in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at McGuire AFB, NJ. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he became a law enforcement officer in Mississippi and Alabama for nearly ten years. While in law enforcement, Joey worked in various divisions including Patrol, Warrant Entry Team, Investigations, Firearms Instruction, Coast-Regional High-Level Gang and Drug Prosecution Unit and U.S. Customs Blue Lightning Strike Force. In 1998, Joey entered the private sector investigating nursing homes for plaintiff attorneys across the country resulting in settlements and verdicts in excess of $100 million. Joey investigated one of the first Vioxx pharmaceutical cases to go to trial. It was in the Vioxx case that Joey found his passion for mass actions against large corporations and entities.

In 2012, Joey built a team of 67 law firms to take on BP, Haliburton and Transocean in a mass action on behalf of nearly 2,000 businesses and non-profits that suffered economic losses in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
In 2015, Joey was contacted by a lawyer in Mississippi that was on Joey’s BP team asking Joey to build another team to help his friends—former NFL players—receive compensation in a mass action for the long-terms effects of head injuries. Joey agreed and helped build a team of lawyers, neurologists, neuropsychologists and other medical professionals from around the country to substantiate and maximize the player’s financial compensation. Joey’s team is currently seeking compensation for dozens of former NFL players.
Since 2016 Joey has utilized his law enforcement, investigative, mass action litigation and legal skills primarily representing local governments, in various states around the country, against opioid manufacturers and distributors. Joey has been interviewed or quoted by media sources around the world, including the United Kingdom’s Daily Mail, Canada’s Toronto Star and domestic publications such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, TMZ, Rolling Stone Magazine and various news outlets in Virginia.
